ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) has ensured the people that the capital Erbil is fully secured and under no threat.
In an official press release in the early hours of Thursday, the KRSC rejected the fake news spread by unofficial websites and social media pages to claim that Erbil is under threat. “We know who are the sources of such fake claims, and we are aware of the fact that they intend to play the role of ‘fifth column’ in hopes of bringing about a situation in which their failure is covered up,” reads the press release.
The KRSC also ensures the people of Kurdistan and Erbil of full security in the capital under the watchful eyes of the Peshmerga forces.
“No [military] forces have been mobilised towards Erbil,” the KRSC said, noting that remarkable diplomatic steps have been taken by Kurdistan to resolve the current situation.
It also calls on the people of Erbil to spare no effort in helping the huge wave of Kurdish IDPs who have fled Kirkuk after the city was invaded by the Baghdad-backed Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi.
