ERBIL— Iran-backed Shi'ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi on Wednesday burnt down a whole building in central Kirkuk only because it was a fitness center for women and contained a swimming pool for women.
Plaza Structure was burnt like many other buildings by the Hashd al-Shaabi militias only one day after the Shi'ite forces hanged the photos of former Iranian spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, in streets of Kikruk, said Kurdistan Democratic Party lawmaker from Kirkuk, Shakhawan Abdullah.
BasNews has learnt that the only reason for burning the building was it that contained a swimming pool for women, something which is "contrary to religion" according to the beliefs of Hashd al-Shaabi militias and the Iranian forces accompanying them.
There are scores of violations that the Shi'ite militias have committed in the course of only three days. They raided and occupied Kirkuk with the support of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps on Monday while the international community stood watching by the exodus of tens of thousands of Kurdish citizens from Kirkuk amid fears of retaliation for the independence referendum that Kurdistan carried out in late September.
KDP lawmaker, Abdulla told BasNews that the Iran-backed militias have in reality occupied Kirkuk and the international community should take action and "correct the mistake that has been committed against Kurds."
