ERBIL— A booby-trapped bomb set by the Islamic State (IS) militants in a sub-district of Sinjar exploded on Wednesday, leaving behind five children wounded.
Speaking to BasNews, Khalaf Qasm, a member of Sinjar local council, said the explosion occurred in Bare parish as the children passed by the area.
The children were taking care of their cattle and livestock in the area as they hit the bomb.
They have been wounded seriously in the event, the official stated.
Qasm added many people in the area have so far become victims of booby-trapped bombs which have been planted by the IS extremists before they were driven out of Sinjar.
IS invaded Sinjar and its vicinity in August 2014 and after almost one year was pushed back by Kurdistan Peshmerga forces. Kurdish Yezidis dominate the area which lies in Nineveh province.
