ERBIL- Kuwait will not abide by any instructions by the Iraqi government and House of Representatives against the Kurdistan Region, said the country’s deputy foreign minister on Thursday.
Khaled Jarallah told Kuwaiti media outlets that his country will in no way take any measures against the Kurdistan Region.
At the same time he called on Erbil and Baghdad authorities to settle their issues through dialogue.
On Wednesday the Iraqi government issued retaliatory measures against the Kurdistan Region’s push for independence through a referendum carried out on Monday.
Iraqi government has given an ultimatum to the Kurdistan Region to hand over its border crossing and airports to Baghdad or face international air ban.
The government has also demanded Erbil to annul the results of the referendum, which won over %92 votes in favor of independence, and the foreign diplomatic representations to relocate their offices from the Kurdistan Region to the Iraqi provinces.
