ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani said that the reactions of Baghdad against Kurdistan Region show the reality of those who stand against the rights of the people of Kurdistan.
The harsh responses of the Iraqi authorities to Kurdistan’s independence referendum reflect “the reality of those who are against the rights of Kurdistan’s people,” adding “they use threatening language.”
Barzani explained that Baghdad’s reactions proved that “we were right and the decision of holding the referendum was the correct and right decision.”
President Barzani made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) on Thursday in Erbil.
ENKS delegation congratulated Barzani on the independence referendum and described the event as “historic” for the people of Kurdistan.
Barzani thanked the people of the Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) for their support for the vote, stating that “your support for Kurdistan’s people was encouraging.”
