DUHOK — The Kurdish Yezidi community organized on Friday a rally in Khanke camp in Duhok Province in support of Kurdistan Region’s independence.
Khisho Mirza, head of Yezidis’ Lalish Centre in Sinjar region, told BasNews that the Kurdish Yezidis in Khanke camp organized a demonstration to express their support for independence of Kurdistan. They conveyed a message to the opponents that Sinjar people will vote for independence of Kurdistan and that Sinjar will become part of Kurdistan.
He noted that the Yezidis will not face atrocities again and “our children will have a bright future” within the independent Kurdistan state.
“Yezidis will vote ‘yes’ to Kurdistan’s independence in order to preserve their culture and language,” the Yezidi official added.
People across Kurdistan Region will vote on September 25 to decide whether to break free from Iraq or remain as part of the country.
