ERBIL— There will be no changes to Kurdistan independence referendum, Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani told French president on Thursday.
In a phone call today, French President Emmanuel Macron commended Kurdistan Region's role in the battle against the Islamic State (IS) and for sheltering refugees and IDPs.
Macron also voiced his country's support for "unity of Iraq" and the rights of the people of Kurdistan which are granted by the Iraqi constitution.
He also demanded Barzani to postpone Kurdistan Region's independence vote, scheduled for September 25.
President Barzani thanked Macron and the people of France for their continuous support for Kurdistan.
In response to Macron's demand, Barzani stated the referendum will take place on time and the door for talks with Baghdad will remain open.
