ERBIL — The Kurdish Yezidi community in Sinjar region is seeking to join the future state of Kurdistan, said a Yezidi official.
Mahma Khalil, Mayor of Sinjar, said in a press conference on Sunday that the best way for Yezidis to be protected from future atrocities is to vote for Kurdistan Region’s independence.
Khalil explained that the Yezidis will vote for Kurdistan’s independence in order to become part of the Kurdistan sovereign state.
Iraqi central government did not remain committed to the federal constitution and violated the rights of the Kurdistan Region’s people, therefore, the region has the right to hold an independence vote, he said.
The Yezidi official called on Kurdistan Region’s Independent High Commission for Elections and Referendum to make preparations in Sinjar for the upcoming referendum on independence.
