ERBIL— Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani stated on Wednesday that the Iraqi constitution has lost all its validity and that Iraq is currently run by a sectarian government.
Addressing the journalists, writers and intellectuals from the Kurdistan Region during a mass meeting, Barzani stated currently Iraq is neither republican, nor parliamentary, nor democratic but "has turned to a sectarian government."
"Iraqis constitution has lost all its validity because it was violated and no one defended it."
He accused Baghdad of violating 55 constitutional articles, adding "I also do not remember any of our agreements being enforced."
Should the majority principle be applied in the political system of Iraq, Kurds will be losers in everything because they will turn to a minority in the House of Representatives, Barzani remarked.
Commenting on the vote on the independence of the Kurdistan Region, Kurdistan president restated the countries who demanded Kurdistan to postpone the vote did not offer any alternative.
"Therefore, we are firm on holding the referendum on September 25 [this yea]," he stressed, adding the vote is not against any international principles or conventions.
