ERBIL — As the fight against the Islamic State (IS) has entered a new phase, Peshmerga Ministry of the Kurdistan Region has called on the anti-IS US-led Global Coalition to revisit and expand its scope of cooperation with the Peshmerga forces.
“We have asked the Global Coalition to review some areas of their work with Peshmerga,” Halgurd Hikmat, Director of Media, Culture and National Awareness at the Peshmerga Ministry told BasNews on Wednesday. He argued that a new phase of the fight against IS has begun after the conclusion of Mosul operation.
Hikmat also noted that the Peshmerga forces are also stepping towards being a unified army, therefore the relations between the Peshmerga and Coalition need to be further expanded.
He disclosed that the Coalition and Washington are now reviewing the Peshmerga Ministry’s request for enhancing the military cooperation.
Sharing details with BasNews, Hazhar Aziz, Head of Peshmerga Ministry’s Foreign Affairs, said “We have called for expanding the joint coordination room of Washington, Baghdad and Erbil.”
