DIYALA — Due to Hashd al-Shaabi militia forces’ actions in Diyala province, residents of a number of villages in Khanaqin district in Diyala have left their areas, said a local Kurdish official.
Sheikh Jaafer Mustafa, Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) branch office of Khanaqin, told BasNews Hashd al-Shaabi militias have created tensions in the area, prompting many villagers in Naftkhana, Saadia, and Qaratapa districts to leave their areas.
He argued that only seven families are now living in Naftkhana while it was a crowded town before.
He noted that the militiamen have been pressuring people in the region, particularly in the Sunni areas.
He also revealed that Hashd al-Shaabi has made it difficult for Kurdish people in Khanaqin to travel to Baghdad.
