ERBIL— Fleeing with their families, tens of Islamic State (IS) members gave themselves in to the Peshmerga forces on Tuesday, according to a report.
Iraqi al-Sumaria news cited an informed source from Kurdistan Peshmerga forces as saying the IS members and their families came from the Ayaziyah district (near Tel Afar, west of Mosul).
The images posted on Sumaria news show the IS members, in a long queue and some of them laying on ground, hand-cuffed behind their backs.
In less than a week and without a strong resistance from the extremists, Tel Afar which was held by IS for more than three years, was recaptured by Iraqi forces.
The town, 65 km west of Mosul, was declared as the IS capital after the control of Mosul was claimed by the Iraqi forces in July 2017, following nearly nine months of fierce battle.
