KIRKUK — Islamic State (IS) militants raided the house of a police officer and killed seven members of his family in a village in Dibis district in northwestern Kirkuk Province, in an attempt to abduct him.
Police Captain Ali Mohamed, head of Dibis Security, told BasNews that a group of IS militants sneaked last night into Malha village in the district which is 2 km from the Peshmerga bases. The militants attacked the house of lieutenant colonel Farhan Hamad, a police officer, and kidnapped him.
The extremists, moreover, killed two sons of the officer along with four of his nephews and another close relative in a brutal manner, said captain Mohamed.
He noted that the police officer managed to escape while the militants were ambushed by the Peshmerga forces on their way back to Hawija city in southern Kirkuk. However, the militants could evade the Peshmerga forces and return to Hawija.
