ERBIL— The Iranian artillery bombardments against the Kurdistan Region's borders on Saturday left behind two civilians wounded.
The shelling continues in the mountainous areas of Haji Omaran district of Erbil (called Balakayati) which is now overrun by nomads.
A nomad and eyewitness from Balakayati, Karim Ramazan, told BasNews that Sharivan Mam Sheikh, 22, and Bestan Bzhar, 14, sustained wounds in the shelling and were transferred to hospitals in the nearby district of Choman.
Karim, who is local to the targeted area, added 30 nomadic families were also forced by the bombardments to relocate to safer areas.
Every year the bordering areas are shelled by Iran with several civilians reported injured and some killed. Iran claims its cross-border offensives target the dissident Kurdish forces who are residing in the rugged area.
There are also reports that Iran has crossed the borders into the Kurdistan Region in Pishdar district of Sulaimaniyah. Reportedly, the neighboring country has built garrisons on the mountaintops of the area where no Kurdish security forces are positioned.
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has repeatedly urged Tehran to respect its shared border strip and end its bombardments.
