ERBIL- Hemin Hawrami, the senior assistant to Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani, reiterated on Monday that Kurdistan holds a firm position over running its independence referendum as it has been planned.
Hawrami, who is also responsible for political & general relations at Barzani's office, posted a tweet, saying he received a delegation from Turkish consulate in Erbil.
He added in the meeting he reiterated Kurdistan Region is determined to hold referendum on independence on September 25, 2017.
The opinion poll will be held not only in the Kurdistan Region but also in the areas which both Kurdistan and Baghdad authorities claim their tenure. In these ethnically mixed areas, which are currently run by Iraqi government, Kurds constitute the majority.
