ERBIL— Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani stated on Monday that in order for the people of Kurdistan to attain their rights, Kurdistan Region authorities will continue dialogue with the Iraqi parties.
As he received Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jobouri, Barzani also underlined Kurdistan will seek its rights in peace and will avoid resorting to violence.
Commenting on the imminent referendum on independence of the Kurdistan Region from Iraq, Kurdistan president stressed the infringements against the Iraqi constitution and the principles of partnership and political consensus led Kurdistan administration to plan the referendum.
The plan to hold the referendum on September 25, 2017 cannot be annulled or reversed, Barzani told Jobouri.
President Barzani and Jobouri also had discussions over the progress in the war on Islamic State (IS) extremists, the situation of the IDPs and refugees, and the phase after the elimination of IS.
