ERBIL — The representative of the Kurdish Shabak community in the Iraqi parliament said the residents of the Kurdish areas outside the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) administration support Kurdistan Region independence referendum.
Salim Shabak, the representative of Shabak community in the Iraqi parliament, told BasNews that the referendum will win significant votes in the Kurdish areas outside KRG’s rule, stating that the residents of those areas are keen on joining Kurdistan Region as they have lost hopes in coexistence in Iraq.
“We hope this referendum will lead to the ultimate success for Kurdistan Region’s people and that they will not face atrocities again,” Shabak said.
He added that all Kurdistan Region’s components support the referendum and they will vote 'yes' widely on this historic survey.
In a meeting chaired by Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday, the political parties in the region agreed on holding a referendum on independence on September 25th, 2017.
