ERBIL — The Kurdish Yezidis representative to the Iraqi parliament, Vian Dakhil, said on Sunday that the Shi’ite militia Hashd al-Shaabi forces have been notified to leave the Yezidi areas and avoid creating tensions.
Dakhil told BasNews that the deployment of Hashd al-Shaabi forces in the Yezidi areas in southern Sinjar was according to an agreement, saying that “We don't want Hashd al-Shaabi to stay there.”
The agreement has been made in coordination with the US-led Global Coalition against the Islamic State, she said.
“We have made it clear that these areas are Kurdish and they [Hashd al-Shaabi] need to leave after the operation is concluded,” she said.
"The Yezidi areas liberated by the paramilitaries fall within the Peshmerga territories and these areas will be protected by the Peshmerga forces," said the Yezidi MP, adding that any future moves in the area should be coordinated and overseen by Peshmerga.
She noted that Hashd al-Shaabi has explained that they will withdraw from the area after their mission is concluded.
