SINJAR — Sinjar Mayoral Council has officially called on the Shi'ite paramilitary, known as Hashd al-Shaabi, to desist from crossing the Sinjar borders and that only the Peshmerga forces should liberate the remaining areas.
"Sinjar Council has officially put forward its demands and recommendations to Nineveh Provincial Council of which is for Hashd al-Shaabi to refrain from entering Sinjar region," Waisi Naif, head of Sinjar Mayoral Council, told BasNews on Monday.
He said that people of Sinjar prefer the Peshmerga forces to recapture the rest of Sinjar districts remaining under control of the Islamic State (IS) militants which are Kojo, Tel Banat, Tel Qasab, Siba Sheikh Khidir, Gir Uzeir and Hatima located in southern Sinjar.
He asked the militia forces who have been deployed in Tel Banat and Tel Qasab to withdraw from the areas.
The Mayor of Sinjar Mahma Khalil also called on the Iraqi forces and Hashd al-Shaabi to withdraw from the Yezidi areas and allow the people of Sinjar rebuild their hometowns. He also demanded the forces to refrain from destroying the mass graves of the Yezidis who were massacred by the IS militants in August 2014.
