ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani sent his congratulations to the Kurdish Yezidis on the occasion of Yezidi new year known as Charshama Sor (Red Wednesday), which will be commemorated by Yezidi community on Wednesday.
In a statement released by Kurdistan Region Presidency, Barzani says "on the occasion of the Yezidi new year, Charshama Sor, I congratulate all the Kurdish Yezidis in Kurdistan Region and around the globe."
Barzani stated that Kurdish Yezidis are an inseparable part of Kurdistan people, adding that "their prosperity as well as adversity are shared by [all] people of Kurdistan."
Yezidis have faced various atrocities throughout history solely because of their religious and national identity, Barzani said, stressing that their commitment to their principles has foiled all the plots against them.
The terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) paid the price for their crimes against Yezidis as they were successfully defeated by the Peshmerga forces, the statement reads.
Barzani said that no crimes should be repeated against Yezidis, affirming Kurdistan people's support for Yezidis.
"No one is allowed to impose themselves on them [Yezidis] and they alone should determine their future," the statement concluded.
