LEEDS — The UN Coordinator for Iraq, Lisa Grande said Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has provided the best humanitarian aid to the displaced people on the territory of the Kurdish Region, during her visit to the Hassan Shan camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in southwest Erbil.
Grande, who visited Erbil on Friday, said that the Hassan Sham camp is very famous as it is considered probably the best one in all over Iraq and that's to a large extent a result of the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) , which manages the camp, Kurdistan24 reported.
She continued by saying that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also supports the camp, and this led to the camp having the best standards seen anywhere in Iraq.
“We are very grateful to the KRG. They have been very generous in opening their areas so that people can find a safe haven...and allowing us to be part of it,” she told Kurdistan24.
The UN coordinator further explained that there are about 20 camps emergency sites around Mosul for the displaced persons and plans for constructing more camps in southern Mosul are underway at the moment.
In addition, Grande acknowledged that the humanitarian situation in western Mosul is expected to worsen as the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) are about to conduct a massive offensive in the areas. Supply lines to the western parts of Mosul were blocked by the ISF in earlier actions against the so-called Islamic State (IS) causing most shops and bakeries in the area to close and this led to a serious food, electricity and fuel shortage.
