SINJAR — Artillery units of Kurdish Peshmerga forces late on Tuesday shelled some Islamic State (IS) positions around the Yezidi town of Sinjar, killing at least 10 extremists.
Head of media cell for Peshmerga command in Sinjar, Khalaf Shivan, told BasNews that the artillery shelling followed a series of airstrikes by the US-led coalition fighter jets on the IS military positions near Roove village, some 10 kilometers far from central Sinjar.
The bombardment was reportedly carrie out at around 21:00 local time (18:00 GMT).
According to the official, the IS facilities have been completely destroyed in the area with 10 jihadists killed while several others are expected to have been injured.
“A tunnel has also been destroyed by the strikes, but the IS casualties in the tunnel remain unknown,” Shivan added.
