ERBIL — Czech Republic will step up its support for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces by providing them with mine-clearance trainings, Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD) reported on Saturday.
According to the report, nearly 10 Peshmerga officers will be deployed to the south Bohemian region in Czech Republic where the trainings are said to be taking place.
The trainings intend to help the Kurdish forces in their fight against Islamic State (IS) in northern Iraq and assist them with defusing the IEDs IS is leaving behind in the areas already liberated from the extremist group.
According to the Czech Defense Ministry, also trainings for the Iraqi air force will continue as part of the country’s engagement in the anti-IS efforts.
Czech Republic is one of the global coalition members fighting IS; it has previously sent military supplies to Erbil and trained several dozen of Peshmerga forces.
