SINJAR — Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has formed a new party in Sinjar, hoping to expand its influence among Kurdish Yazidis of Kurdistan Region.
The new party was born after merging the Freedom and Democratic Movement (TEV DA) and Yazidi Free Community in Sinjar, two parties which are affiliated with PKK.
Roj News Website, which is linked to PKK, reported on Saturday, June 25th, that the two parties have decided to merge and establish a new party named “Freedom and Democratic Party of Yazidis”.
PKK’s decision to establish the new party comes as Kurdistan Region officials in Sinjar have several times urged PKK to withdraw its forces from the city and its neighboring areas and avoid interfering in the internal affairs of Kurdistan Region.
Sinjar Mayor Mahma Khalil previously told BasNews that PKK has stationed its guerrillas in several government buildings inside Sinjar and their presence is preventing them from the process of reconstruction and rehabilitation of the city dully.
