ERBIL - The Islamic State (IS) attacked the Iraqi police forces with mortars in the disputed town of Khanaqin on Saturday night, an official said.
Khalil Khudadad, a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) representative to the area, told BasNews that the incident occurred between the towns of al-Sa'diyah and Jalawla, where the jihadists targeted a unit of the Iraqi police forces.
"Three police forces were wounded due to the attack who were taken to the public hospital in Jalawla for medical treatment," Khudadad added.
The Islamic State was declared fully defeated in late 2017, but the extremist group's sleeper cells seem to have not surrendered and they still carry out terrorist activities against the security forces and civilians in most liberated areas.
