ERBIL — United Nations Security Council is set to hold a session to Tuesday this week to discuss the latest developments in Iraq, according to the United Nations Assistance Mission to Iraq (UNAMI).
The session is scheduled for 21 May 2019 at 3:00 p.m. New York time (10:00 p.m. Baghdad time).
It will be briefed by Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, about the current situation in Iraq, according to a statement by UNAMI.
Iraq has recently faced difficulties in growing tensions between Iran and the US.
Washington has heightened the “threat level” in Iraq and it has ordered non-emergency employees to leave the country. US giant oil company, ExxonMobil, has also evacuated its foreign staff from southern province of Basra.
Meanwhile, security sources continue warning about Islamic State’s (IS) reorganization in the deserts of Iraq while the jihadist group has recently increased its terrorist attacks across the north of the country.
