ERBIL - Over 75 signatures from the parliament members have so far been collected in a bid to oust the foreign forces from Iraq.
Iraqi media reports said that the lawmakers could reach a quorum by gathering 160 signatures but that they have not been able to do so yet as a result of a break at the Council of Representatives, pointing out that efforts, however, are ongoing in this regard.
A recent statement by the US President Donald Trump, in which he said that he would keep his country’s forces in Iraq to watch Iran, has angered certain sides in Baghdad, the majority of which are known to have ties with Iran.
Reports cited an Iraqi source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, as saying that Iraq has two options for forcing the US troops out of the country.
"Either ending the 2008 security agreement with Washington, or committed to ousting the US and any other foreign forces within a certain timeline which should not be longer than 16 months," he said.
