BAGHDAD — Iraqi member of parliament Kamil Nawaf Ghariri survived on Thursday an assassination attempt in southern Baghdad, but sustained injuries.
Ghariri’s office said in a statement that the assailants targeted the MP’s vehicle while traveling on Saydiyah road.
Two of Ghariri’s guards were abducted after fierce fire exchange at the scene, according to the statement.
However, this is not the first time the MP comes under attack. Armed men opened fire at his home last year in September.
Ghariri is from Ayad Allawi’s National Coalition parliamentary bloc.
