MOSUL — At least five militants of the Islamic State (IS) were killed during a fire exchange between them and Iraqi security forces in south of Mosul.
The jihadists were hiding in Birhevi village near Hammam Alil district of southern Mosul, a source said, noting that their hideout was discovered during a search operation by the security forces.
Hammam Alil district is located some 35 kilometres south of Mosul in Nineveh Province.
No casualties on the side of the Iraqi forces were reported.
Even though declared eradicated from entire Iraq, the IS jihadists continue maintaining presence in some parts of Nineveh and Anbar provinces.
They conduct regular attacks against the Iraqi army and even civilians.
