ERBIL — At least 14 Islamic State (IS) members were killed in a series of airstrikes carried out by a US-led coalition in Iraq’s northern Kirkuk province, a local security source said on Tuesday.
According to Khalid al-Numan, a police officer in Kirkuk, a coalition aircraft targeted and striked an IS bomb factory in the area of Riyadh in Hawija, located about 65 kilometers southwest of Kirkuk city, Anadolu Agency reported.
The airstrikes killed at least 14 members of the extremist group, whereas dozens of others have been injured, Numan added.
The areas around the town of Hawija in the Kirkuk province have been under IS control since 2014, when the group first emerged in Iraq. However, the Iraqi forces are currently on their way of liberating the town from the jihadists.
