ERBIL— In a mopping up operation against the remaining Islamic State (IS) fighters in northern Tel Afar (65 km west of Mosul), Iraqi forces eliminated 80 extremists, including 15 suicide-bombers.
In a statement, Brig. Yahya Rasoul, the spokesperson for the Joint Operation Command said the 15th Division of the Iraqi Army with the support of Iraqi warplanes conducted the cleansing operation.
The offensive was carried out in Qasabat Ar'ray village, west of Ayaziya sub-district of Tel Afar, he added.
Two vehicles used by the extremists were also crushed during the operation.
Also a considerable number of Islamic jihadists fled away, according to the statement.
Today Kurdistan Peshmerga forces stated that they have ambushed 17 Islamic militants who tried to escape to Syria from Tel Afar. They were also killed, including two suicide bombers who exploded themselves.
