ERBIL— The Iraqi warplanes pounded Sunday the Islamic State (IS) posts in the villages northeast of Baquba (center of Diyala), killing 12 jihadists.
Brig. Gen. Ali al-Azzawi, from Tigris Operation Command, was quoted in some media reports as saying the militants were targeted in al-Mayta and al-Adeliya villages, bordering Salahaddin province.
There were IS warlords among the eliminated members, the source stated, adding four vehicles used by the extremists were also destroyed in the air raid.
On Saturday the Tigris Operation Command announced to crack down of IS movements it has launched an offensive in three key areas northeast of Diyala, namely, Thalab, al-Hadidayn and Qzlaq which are located between Khanaqin and Naftkhana towns.
