ERBIL — The US-led coalition stroke 85 Islamic State (IS) militants and 40 vehicles belonging to the extremist group near a convoy stranded on the Iraq-Syria border, Joint Task Forces-Operation Inherent Resolve said on Wednesday.
According to a statement made by the forces, over the last week the coalition conducted a series of airstrikes against the IS militants on the Iraqi-Syrian border, all in accordance with the international law of armed conflict. The strikes struck approximately 85 IS militants and around 40 IS vehicles, a tank, an artillery system and armed technical vehicles, Sputnik reported.
In addition, the coalition warplanes conducted 25 airstrikes near the Syrian town of Raqqa, which engaged with an IS tactical unit and destroyed 22 fighting positions, three IS communications infrastructure items, and a logistics node.
The US-led coalition continues fighting the IS insurgents in both Syria and Iraq, as part of the ongoing operations against the extremist group in the two countries.
