TEL AFAR — Iraqi military estimates that 500 Islamic State (IS) militants are remaining inside Ayadiyah, the last district held by the IS militants in Tel Afar.
Iraqi media outlets, quoting military sources in Tel Afar, reported that 500 armed members of the IS extremist group are being surrounded in Ayadiyah area.
The Iraqi Federal Police Command announced on Tuesday the liberation of 50 percent of Ayadiyah and several important positions in the town north of Tel Afar.
The operation to liberate Tel Afar commenced on August 20. Iraqi forces, backed by US-led Coalition, managed to liberate central Tel Afar. The army is waiting to liberate Ayadiyah to declare the complete victory over IS in the city.
