BAGHDAD — Iraqi Sunni politician and speaker of parliament, Salim al-Jabouri, officially announced his new political party on Friday in Baghdad.
The Civil Rally for Reform, Jabouri’s new party, is said to seek to “develop effective policies aimed at finding real solutions to the political, economic and social problems facing the Iraqi state and people”, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
“We are taking the first step on a long road that will bring us together to serve our people, society and homeland,” Jabouri said during a press conference.
He described his new party as “democratic with conservative leanings”.
The move comes amid preparations for provincial elections in Iraq which have already been postponed to April next year.
Jabouri was originally a member of the Iraqi Islamic Party.
