ERBIL— The State of Law Coalition (SLC) leader Nouri al-Maliki states he will resort to the elections law against efforts to divide his coalition.
Iraqi Vice President Maliki, who also heads the Shi'ite Da'wa Party, commented on the reports over the intent by the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi for separating from Da'wa Party to form his own faction.
Some media reports suggested that Abadi is seeking to resign from the SLC to form Rescue and Reconstruction Faction with the support of some political leaders.
Maliki stated so far the SLC and Da'wa Party have acted as a single party with a united perspective and intend to run for the elections as a single political entity.
Commenting on the possible divisions in the SLC, Maliki stated he will resort to the elections law for resolving the dispute.
"If someone has a different view than that of us and we realized that it's in our interest to become two or three factions, then we will negotiate," he added.
