ERBIL — The Kurdish Yezidi member of the Iraqi parliament, Vian Dakhil, called on the directors of the Iraqi national ID and civil status affairs directorates to pay close attention to the issue of registering kidnapped Yezidi children under the name of their kidnappers.
MP Dakhil confirmed in a statement that based on the information they have about the intentions of a number of kidnappers to register the Yazidi children under their names, especially those who were under 7 before being abducted three years ago.
"Most of our kidnapped children have lost their mother tongue and may have forgotten their original families,” Dakhil said.
"We will continue to follow closely the issue of all our captives for the next years," she said.
She added that those who issue official IDs for Yezidi children under the name of their captors will face legal punishment, calling for "strict scrutiny before granting identities to children in suspected areas or to suspected persons."
