ERBIL— The coalition airstrikes targeted Islamic State (IS) militants in western Anbar province on Thursday, killing some 30 militants. Also today in a separate operation in Anbar the IS chief of checkpoints was also arrested.
The Iraqi Intelligence Foundation announced in a statement that the IS chief was arrested by the intelligence detachment of 10th Division of Iraqi Army in Hit.
The statement does not name the apprehended official but adds he was guiding the extremists to target the security forces.
The commander of the Shi'ite Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) in Baghdadiyah district of Anbar also confirmed that the coalition airstrikes against an IS convoy left 30 militants dead and their vehicles completely destroyed.
The convoy was targeted in Muwaylaha district, between Baghdadiyah and Beiji.
