ERBIL— Iraqi Federal Police forces on Monday killed 14 members of the Islamic State (IS) organization and destroyed nine motorbikes in the Old City of Mosul, according to an official statement released by the forces.
The militants were killed during an offensive in the narrow lanes and alleys of al-Zanjili neighborhood.
The statement added there are also plans to deploy more troops to al-Sihha neighborhood in order to gain full control of the entire area.
The Joint Operations Command said in May that more than 16,000 IS members have been eliminated in clashes with the Iraqi forces since the onset of operation to liberate Mosul in October.
Iraqi forces claims they have retaken 90 pre cent of the western part of Mosul and there are reports that suggest Mosul will completely come under Iraqi forces' control in less than two weeks.
