ISTANBUL — A Russian member of the Islamic State (IS) was killed by the Iraqi police forces in western Mosul. The man known as Abu Hajir al-Rusi was killed by the Iraqi forces in a rocket attack in the al-Thawra district.
In a nearby district of al-Farouq, the Iraqi forces took over an office belonging to the IS, Iraqi Federal Police Chief Shaker Jawdat announced on Tuesday.
The office belonged to IS’ so-called “health department.”
The operation to recapture western Mosul began in February, following the declared liberation of eastern half of the city in January. The operation is led by the Iraqi forces with support from the US-led international coalition.
