ERBIL — Kurdistan Region's Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) announced on Tuesday that a senior Islamic State (IS) security official was struck on Monday in south of Kirkuk.
CTD reported on Tuesday that Ammar Hasan Mohamad Hasan, known as Abu Nabeel, who was a senior IS security official was eliminated between Riyaz district and Hawija town in southeast of Kirkuk province.
The IS official along with nine other militants were killed in an airstrike by the anti-IS Global Coalition forces on April 17, said CTD.
Hawija city is the last remaining stronghold of IS in Kirkuk province. The delayed operation to recapture the city has been posing a security threat to Kirkuk.
