MOSUL — Peshmerga forces along with the Kurdish counter terrorism forces recaptured a Christian village in northern Mosul.
Peshmerga forces launched a large-scale offensive today aiming to liberate a range of areas from Islamic State (IS). Shortly after the start of the operation, the Peshmerga forces along with the counter terrorism forces managed to drive the militants out of Batnaya sub district, a Christian village in Tilkif town.
After gaining control of the village, the engineering team started clearing the area from IEDs and other explosives.
The Peshmerga forces also controlled the main road between Nawaran and Bashiq in northern Mosul which is a strategic area for further defeating IS.
Peshmerga forces launched an extensive operation from three fronts on Thursday at 06:00 am local time aiming to drive out the militants from a large area in north and northeast of Mosul as part of the major assault to ultimately liberate Mosul.
