ERBIL — Following the death of 12 premature babies in a Baghdad Hospital on Wednesday, the Iraqi health minister handed in her resignation.
On August 10th, just after midnight, fire broke out at the Yarmouk Hospital in western Baghdad and killed 12 babies, most of whom were less than a day old.
According to Iraqi officials, 18 mothers and children were also injured by smoke inhalation.
Following the incident, Health Minister Adila Mahmoud announced her resignation during a TV program, and it now needs Prime Minister’s signature to accept the decision.
The fire is said to be the result of an electrical fault at the hospital.
