ERBIL— Nine commanders of the Islamic State (IS) organization were killed Thursday night in airstrikes southwest of Kirkuk.
Media reports citing informed officials stated the coalition fighter jets targeted an IS convoy near Abbasi parish (some 35km southwest of Kirkuk), killing nine IS commanders and several more extremists.
In the offensive also 12 vehicles of the organization were destroyed.
According to statement published by the Peshmerga command in Western Kirkuk Battlefield a dozens of IS militants were killed Thursday during a coalition airstrike.
The airstrike targeted an IS fort in Kuwaz Kurd village. A weapon and ammunition cache of the organization was also destroyed in the attack.
Some areas to the west and south of Kirkuk province, as Hawija, are still held by the IS.
