ERBIL — Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Minister of Natural Resources has asked the international oil companies to continue their operation in the Kurdish region and back Erbil.
“I appeal to you not to forget Kurdistan,” said Ashti Hawrami at a conference Thursday in Verona. “The fight [against Islamic State] is over, but our fight is there forever. When we talk about investments and projects, we must bear in mind… that investment cannot flourish if there is no security.”
Hawrami’s remarks come a day after Russian giant oil company, Rosnef, announced the signing of production sharing arrangements with the KRG to develop five fields across Kurdistan Region, as reported by Financial Times.
“I ask you, like Rosneft, like Russia recently, to continue supporting Kurdistan so it can survive,” the Kurdish minister said.
“Rosneft is a newcomer in our region, but is becoming quite probably the single latest investor in Kurdistan, which will benefit from this.”
