ERBIL - The total number of coronavirus cases in the Kurdistan Region has now surpassed 200,000, as the pandemic situation has dramatically worsened lately.
The region's Ministry of Health explained in its daily report that it had conducted 11,209 COVID-19 tests within the previous 24 hours, out of which 1,307 people were found positive for the novel virus.
There were 828 new coronavirus recoveries during the same period of time.
The pandemic also claimed the lives of seven more people, with which the death toll spiked to 4,560.
The coronavirus tally in the Kurdistan Region has now reached 200,048, out of which 183,989 people have already recovered from the novel virus while 11,499 cases remain active.
The coronavirus situation in the Kurdistan Region, as part of other areas in Iraq, has once again deteriorated, as the country is currently facing the third wave of the virus. The region's Health Ministry also reported in a separate statement earlier the day the first case of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Kurdistan.
