ERBIL — The first case of COVID-19’s Delta variant has been detected in the Kurdistan Region, said KRG Health Minister Saman Barzanji.
The minister made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday to warn the public about a sharp resurge of the spread across the region.
He said the medical labs in the Kurdistan Region are technically capable of the relevant tests for suspected cases of the Delta variant.
Minister Barzani expressed his concern over people’s refusal to abide by the health guidelines, saying that any negligence could lead to a disaster.
The daily infection rate in the Kurdistan Region has significantly increased in the past week, making it the highest since January 2021.
