ERBIL - Iraq's Supreme Security Committee for Elections has denied the reports of postponing the parliamentary elections, noting that it will be held as scheduled.
Brigadier Ghaleb Al-Attiyah, a spokesperson for the Supreme Committee, said that the Elections Security Committee held its meeting on Tuesday which was chaired by the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Lieutenant-General Abdul-Amir Al-Shammari and attended by the committee members and representatives of the High Elections Commission.
The parliamentary vote will be held on 10 October, 2021, without any delays, the spokesperson said, adding that the reports of postponing the elections are just rumors.
This comes two days after Bahar Mahmoud, a member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, told Shafaq News: "Some political forces have submitted an appeal to the Federal Court with some articles and paragraphs of the electoral law, and this will lead to the postponement of the parliamentary elections."
