ERBIL — Kurdish prominent leader and president of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, has sent condolences over the passing of Erbil Governor Firsat Sofi.
“The passing of Dr. Firsat Sofi, the governor of Erbil, has deeply saddened me. Dr. Firsat Sofi was an example of competency, loyalty, honesty, and patriotism who proved himself within a short period of time,” Barzani wrote in an official statement.
“Losing a young man like Dr. Firsat is a great loss. I have lost a son of mine.”
Sofi had tested positive for COVID-19 in late October, and he was taken under intensive care at a hospital in Ankara, Turkey, where he died today.
