ERBIL — UK Ambassador to Iraq, Stephen Hickey, met with Kurdish prominent leader and president of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, on Wednesday, during which he welcomed the recent Erbil-Baghdad agreement on normalization of the situation in Sinjar.
Barzani and Hickey reviewed the latest political, security, and economic developments in Iraq and Kurdistan Region, and discussed the persisting threat of terror as well as the challenges faced by Iraq’s political process, a press release from Barzani Headquarters said.
“During the meeting, the British ambassador welcomed the normalization agreement of Sinjar which was made between the federal government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government, hoping that it would be implemented,” reads the press release.
On the agreement, Barzani reiterated his support for Iraqi PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s administration, and emphasized that the obstacles in the process of returning IDPs to their homes in Sinjar should be addressed with joint efforts.
